Description
Valerian (Valeriana Officinalis) root is a traditional herbal remedy with a long history of use in Europe and beyond, dating back to ancient Greece and Rome. The root and rhizome of the plant have been prepared for their effects on the nervous system and were widely used as a calming and restorative herb.
Historically, valerian was used for sleeplessness, nervous tension, stress, and fatigue, as well as for digestive discomfort and muscle spasms. Today, valerian root continues to be used as a botanical supplement traditionally associated with relaxation, emotional balance, and support for restful sleep.
Tea preparation:
Steep 2 – 3 g of dried valerian root in one cup of hot water for 10 – 15 minutes. Drink 30 minutes to 2 hours before sleep for best results.
